- This sword is not OP by any stretch of the imagination. If somebody told you that Rivers of Blood is OP, then you should immediately disregard any and all information they've ever given you. Once upon a time this sword was pretty good, but now it's just fine.

- Other talismans to look for (or Google):
Claw Talisman: Increases jump attack damage
Winged Sword Insignia: Increases damage when you land multiple hits in a short time
Ritual Sword Talisman: Increases all damage you do by 10% when at full health
Gold Scarab: Increases the runes you get by killing enemies
Carian Filigreed Crest: Reduces FP cost of Ashes of War
- “Is Radagon’s Soreseal worth it?”
Radagon’s Soreseal increases your Vigor, Endurance, Strength, and Dexterity by 5 points each; however, it also reduces all of your Damage Negations by 15%, so you take more damage.
Because the Soreseal raises your Vigor, it will increase your maximum hp by a significant amount. Depending on your base Vigor level, this can be anywhere from around 100 extra hp to around 250 extra hp.
So if you have 35 base Vigor, then equipping Radagon's Soreseal will increase it to 40 Vigor, for an increase of 234 hp, or a ~19% increase. BUT if you have, say, 36 Vigor, then equipping the Soreseal brings it to 41, which means one of those points is getting significantly reduced value-- you get an increase of only 214 hp, or a ~17% increase. If you have 40 Vigor and equip the Soreseal, you end up with 45 Vigor, but a hp increase of only 131, or a ~9% increase. So past about 35 Vigor, the Soreseal doesn't increase your max hp enough to be worth using.
The problem with the Soreseal isn't limited to the raw Vigor/hp numbers however. One of the benefits the Soreseal has is related to your Defense stats. Defense and Damage Negation are two different things which have different effects.
Damage Negation is a % reduction in the damage you take. For example, if you have 20% physical negation, and an enemy hits you with a sword that does 100 physical damage, then that 100 damage gets reduced by 20% and you'll only take 80 damage.
Defense, on the other hand, is more complicated. It follows a weird formula and the specifics of it aren't super important, but basically, Defense is *more useful* if the incoming damage is *already low*. For example, (THE FOLLOWING NUMBERS ARE MADE UP JUST AS AN EXAMPLE. DO NOT QUOTE THIS EXAMPLE, IT IS **NOT** ACCURATE) if you have 100 physical Defense, and an enemy hits you with that sword for 100 physical damage, then your Defense might reduce the incoming damage by like 8 points, and you'll take 92 damage. But if that sword did 300 damage, then because it's so much higher than your 100 Defense, it might only get reduced by 3 points and you'll take 297 damage.
And if the incoming attack did 50 damage, then because your 100 Defense is significantly higher than the incoming damage, it might reduce that damage by 20 points, so you take only 30 damage. So Defense is *more effective* when the incoming damage is *already low,* and Defense is *basically worthless* when the damage is high.
So back to Radagon's Soreseal: because it increases your raw attributes (Vig, End, Str, Dex), it increases everything related to those attributes, including your Defense. You can see this when you equip the Soreseal: you'll notice the Damage Negation goes down, but the Defense goes up.
On paper this sounds like something that can help to cancel out the reduced Damage Negation you get, and indeed it does-- but only against enemies that do *low damage* to begin with. The point is that the Defense increase can help you, but ONLY in lower level areas like Limgrave, Weeping Peninsula, and maybe parts of Liurnia and Caelid. Even if you have, say, 35 Vigor so you get the most value out of that max hp increase from the +5 Vigor, the Defense increase won't do enough to stop an enemy in, say, Altus Plateau from just chunking your healthbar.
So overall, Radagon's Soreseal is ONLY worth using at LOW LEVELS (under 36 Vigor)(Vigor is always your top priority, YOU NEED TO LEVEL VIGOR), and ONLY in EARLY AREAS. Once you leave Limgrave, its effectiveness starts diminishing real fast, and you want to swap it out as soon as possible.

This guide will show you where to find the Flamberge. I’ll also give a breakdown of its stats and my favorite Ashes of War to use with it.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
-You will NOT be able to get the Flamberge if Redmane Castle is in Radahn Festival mode. You will have to kill Radahn and then talk to Jerren to go back to regular mode. Learn how to beat him here: youtube.com/watch?v=7mRMaFCkRAo The castle enters Festival mode if you reach a certain point in Ranni’s questline, or if you go to the Altus Plateau.
-On split damage and defense: Weapons that have split damage, i.e. they do 2 or more damage types (such as physical and lightning), suffer from split damage calculation. There are 2 different types of damage resistance: Damage Negation (which you get from armor and buffs), and Defense (which you get from leveling up your stats). All players and enemies in the game have varying Negation and Defense stats.
Negation just reduces incoming damage by a specific percentage. So if you have 20 Lightning Negation, then all Lightning damage you take is reduced by 20%. For example, if my sword does 100 Lightning damage, then when I hit you it will only do 80 Lightning damage. If my sword does 200 instead, then you will only take 160 Lightning damage, because your Negation reduces any damage you take by the same percentage no matter what.
Defense reduces incoming damage based on how close the Defense stat is to the incoming damage. So it's based on the ratio of Defense:Damage. The closer that ratio is, the more Defense reduces incoming damage. The rule of thumb is: if that ratio (Defense:Damage) is 8:1 or higher (so the Defense is 8 times higher than the damage), then the attack is reduced by 90%. If that ratio is 1:8 or lower (so the damage is 8 times higher than the Defense), then the attack is only reduced by 10%. (Yes, that means no matter what, the Defense stat will only allow you to do at most 90% of the damage you see on the Attack Power stat.) If that ratio is more than 1:8, but less than 8:1, then the damage gets reduced based on a really complicated formula that you don't need to worry about (but you can read more about it here: reddit.com/r/darksouls3/comments/4f8yy8/how_defense_and_absorption_really_work ).
So for example, if the enemy has 100 Lightning Defense, and your sword does 800 Lightning damage (so the ratio is 100:800, or 1:8), then you will do 720 damage to the enemy. Like I said before, it only lets you do 90% of the weapon's listed damage value. If the enemy has 100 Lightning Defense, and your sword does 100 damage (so the ratio is 100:100, or 1:1), then the enemy should take about 40 damage from the attack (because the formula is weird). The point is, Defense doesn't matter all that much once you start getting weapons that do 300-400+ damage, because even the strongest enemies only have like 130 Defense. The lower the ratio of Defense:Damage is, the more damage you will do...
BUT, that is only for ONE damage type. If you have a sword that does 500 physical damage, and the enemy has 100 physical Defense, then you'll outclass them with a 1:5 ratio. You'll do something like 400 damage (just a ballpark estimate). However, when you put an elemental infusion on that sword, which will be Lightning in our case, then your weapon's total damage will be split up into a physical portion and a Lightning portion. So with the Lightning infusion, your sword might get a TOTAL of 600 damage, but it'll probably be split up into 300 physical and 300 Lightning damage.
So if that same enemy has 100 physical Defense, and 100 Lightning Defense, then you won't get a ratio of 100 Defense : 600 damage (1:6); instead you'll get TWO ratios of 100 Defense : *300* Damage (1:3). That means each portion of your attack will be reduced by significantly more than if you were just doing one big hit with a single damage type, and so you will do *less* damage overall.
TL:DR Elemental infusions typically do less damage unless you have high stats, high weapon upgrades, or you're against weak enemies (or enemies that take bonus damage from elements, like how Erdtree Avatars take double damage from Fire). If you're using an elemental infusion, make sure you use additional buffs (such as Shrouding Crystal Tears, etc.) to compensate for the reduced damage you do.

If you want some details about how poise damage and stance breaks work, check out Illusory Wall’s poise damage videos on youtube.
- In the video I mention using the Dragon Communion Seal because with our 23 Arc and 25 Faith, it will perform well if you cast offensive spells with it. I forgot about the Clawmark Seal, which will probably get better overall damage than the Dragon Communion Seal, because the Clawmark Seal scales with Strength and we have a high Strength build. However, if you only use buff spells like Golden Vow then it doesn’t matter and you should just use the Dragon Communion Seal because it’s weightless. Also the Dragon Breath spells will get better damage because of the buff from that seal.

- Two-hand your weapons by holding Y/Triangle/E and pressing RB/R1/Left Click. You're gonna want to two-hand the Bloodhound's Fang throughout this guide. Two-handing a weapon increases your effective Strength by 50%, so the weapon will do more damage if it has decent Str scaling. This also allows you to wield a weapon if you don't meet its Str requirement; for example, Bloodhound's Fang requires 18 Str to wield. You can wield it with (18 / 1.5 = *12*) Str if you two-hand it. (Note: this does NOT apply to Dexterity! If the weapon requires 17 Dex to wield, then you NEED 17 Dex to wield it!)

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- On Boiled Crab: I explain in the video at 10:22 that the Blackguard will sell you Boiled Prawn at the Boilprawn Shack, and he starts selling Boiled Crab if you meet him in the moat outside of Leyndell (there's a map in the video). Boiled Crab is a VERY useful item and I'd generally recommend getting access to it before killing him, but it's only 5% stronger than Boiled Prawn so I decided to not go to the moat for this video. The Blackguard does also get stronger when he moves to the moat, so I think that if you want the Iron Ball then it's better overall to just kill him at the Boilprawn Shack. Just make sure you get access to the Boiled Prawn before you kill him, or else you'll be COMPLETELY LOCKED OUT OF IT for your playthrough until NG+.
- To use the Iron Balls properly, *make sure you two-hand your Balls!* You can two-hand a weapon by holding Y/Triangle/E and pressing RB/R1/Left Click. Make sure you've got a Ball in each hand so you can smack your enemies with them real good. Also, you mainly want to use the heavy attacks, either tap R2's for fast attacks or charged R2's for slightly slower (but much stronger) attacks. Charged R2's are your bread 'n butter for this weapon.
- Smithing Stones: In this guide we go to Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel and Sealed Tunnel for the Smithing Stone Miner's Bell Bearings 1 and 2. This lets you buy infinite Smithing Stone 1-4, so you can get any weapon up to +12. For the sake of brevity I decided to cut out the tunnels where you can find Smithing Stone 5's and 6's, which will let you upgrade the Iron Ball even higher, but here's a list of places where you can find them:

How to get BLASPHEMOUS BLADE +10 EASILY: youtu.be/3w9gRj5kdM4
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- Leveling Guide:
(Note: this is a rough approximation of the order in which you should level up your stats. Depending on your starting class, you may hit these stat values at different levels. Don't worry too much about it. Honestly as long as you've got 50 Vigor and 50 Faith, the build will be good.)
Level 1-60: Focus on getting 40 Vigor, and then the minimum required stats for the Blasphemous Blade. If you follow my guide about getting the Blasphemous Blade +10 Easily linked above, then you will have a great headstart with this and with your playthrough.
Level 60-80: Level Endurance and Mind to 15-20 each. Getting them to the level shown in the build can wait.
Level 80-100: Dump points into Faith. By this time you should have around 40ish Faith.
Level 100-125: Level Vigor to 50, then get your Endurance and Mind to 24 and 23. After this, any leftover points go into Faith.
Level 125-150: Level Vigor to 60, dump points into Faith.
Level 150-200+: Level Faith to 80. After that you can focus on leveling Strength if you want to maximize the damage you get with the Blasphemous Blade. You may also want to consider some extra Mind for more sustainability.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- YOU DO NOT LOSE CRACKED POTS WHEN YOU CRAFT THEM! Once you pick up a Cracked Pot, or any container, you have it FOREVER. It magically reappears in your inventory after you throw the pot, so don't be afraid to use them!
- You are limited in how many Throwing Pots you can hold, by how many Containers you have. For example, say you have 5 Cracked Pots. That means you can hold a maximum of any 5 Throwing Pots crafted using Cracked Pots. So it could be 5 Fire Pots, or 3 Fire Pots and 2 Sleep Pots, or a Volcano Pot and a Poison Pot and a Dung Pot and a Lightning Pot and a Fire Pot, or whatever. *The number of Containers you have just determines how many Throwing Pots you can hold at once.*
- Some Throwing Pots require FP to use, such as Sleep Pots and Magic Pots.
- You can add items like Freezing Pots, Poison Pots, and Swarm Pots to any build for easy and effective status buildup.

Make sure you get the Bloodhound's Fang +10 by following my guide: youtu.be/gSYuaZ1DTf8
Link to build: https://er-build-planner.nyasu.business/?b=cbeada50794b78
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- Leveling guide:
Your first and most important stat is _always_ Vigor. This build goes to 50 Vigor. If you are on a new or low level character, you should *get 40 Vigor before you level up ANY other stat!* This makes setting up the rest of the build WAY easier.
After that you want to focus on getting 40 Dex and 20 Str, while you also upgrade the Fang. Then you can go to 50 Vigor, and also get the Endurance and Mind. And then focus on getting the rest of the Dex and Str.
If you go past 125, the first thing you should do is level Vigor to 60. It’s objectively the best stat to put your points into, so it’s always your priority. Then you can alternate between leveling Dex and Str in a 3:2 ratio. So for every 3 points you put into Dex, you put 2 into Str. For example, at 60 Dex you should have 40 Str.
Beyond that, leveling Faith for some more buffs like Golden Vow (25 Faith) and Howl of Shabriri (33) is a good idea. You can get more Mind so you can cast the buffs without having to drink a blue flask, more Endurance to wear heavier armor if you want (this is your lowest priority btw). Or just whatever else you want to level as you see fit.

This guide is intended for newer players who want to get the cool new items in the DLC as early as possible, and also for people who want to keep their character at a fairly low level for mid-level PVP and co-op. I know it's juuuust a bit long, but it's worth being prepared so you can easily kill Radahn and Mohg, and be strong enough to play the DLC.

-Build for fighting Radahn: (These build links will be available in a few hours, I don't have time to put them together right now. Check the timestamps at 14:20 and 38:05 to see what I used in the video.)
-Build for fighting Mohg:
==========
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
-This was recorded on NG+2 with a level 60 character. Mohg is meant to be fought at level 110+ on NG+0. If I can do it with these disadvantages, then you can do it the right way!
-Stats for fighting Radahn: Minimum of 40 Vigor, +12 weapon (+4-5 if it's Somber). Check the build link above to see the build I recommend.
-Stats for fighting Mohg: Minimum of 40 Vigor, but preferably you should have 60 Vigor. +25 weapon (+10 Somber). Mohg is an ENDGAME boss, and he's gatekeeping the DLC which is supposed to be played AFTER beating the main game. He's SUPPOSED to be tough, and you're SUPPOSED to be high level when you fight him. Again, check out the build link above.
-When fighting Mohg, it's best to only hit him once or twice, and then get ready to dodge. Don't spam attacks or he's gonna hit you a lot.

*Which Ashes of War can use which Affinities?*
-Physical Affinities (Iron Whetblade): Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality. Usable on ALL Ashes of War
-Magic Affinities (Glintstone Whetblade): Magic, Cold. Usable on Physical, Magic, and Cold Ashes of War
-Flame Affinities (Red-Hot Whetblade): Fire, Flame Art. Usable on Physical, Fire, and Flame Art Ashes of War
-Golden Affinities (Sacred Whetblade): Lightning, Sacred. Usable on Physical, Lightning, and Sacred Ashes of War
-Occult Affinities (Black Whetblade): Poison, Blood, Occult. Usable on Physical, Poison, Blood, and Occult Ashes of War
===
*So what’s the difference between Blood and Occult?*
- Blood gives the weapon bleed buildup that scales with Arc, but makes its damage scale with Str and/or Dex. If the weapon doesn’t have innate bleed, then this will add bleed to it. Blood also reduces the weapon’s base damage, so you’ll be relying on Blood loss to do a good portion of your damage.
- Occult doesn’t add bleed buildup to the weapon. It drastically reduces Strength and Dex scaling, and gives it a ton of Arcane scaling instead. If the weapon has bleed by default, then that bleed buildup will scale with Arc. It’ll never do as much Bleed buildup per hit as a Blood weapon, but it makes up for that by getting better physical damage on the weapon itself.
- Generally (at reasonable levels) Occult can do more damage, but at higher levels you’ll get more damage with Blood, assuming you have high Strength, Dex, AND Arcane.

-In this guide I showed the locations of alternative talismans that are easier to get than the ones I used in the build. These include the Winged Sword Insignia and the Claw Talisman. I cut out the optimal talismans because they would have made the video 3 hours long. Below are a couple links to videos that will show you where to get the optimal talismans (Milicent's Prosthesis, Rotten Winged Sword Insignia, and Shard of Alexander):
Here is where you can find Milicent's Prosthesis: youtu.be/A0D89RbPnZg?si=zB5zqWMOxzJbQd16&t=2509
Here is where to find Shard of Alexander: youtu.be/XzhBG_Eh4yc?si=_XwONlzpQybnAZZU
Here is where to find Rotten Winged Sword Insignia (note about this below): youtu.be/ZHpCvjUeSo4?si=XKUk9J9Gzh4xTWJC
-On Rotten Winged Sword Insignia: When you do Milicent's questline, you can choose EITHER the RWSI, OR Milicent's Prosthesis. You can't get both of them in a single playthrough, you'll have to go into NG+ to get both of them on one character. If this is your first playthrough then you should get Milicent's Prosthesis, which can be obtained in Dominula, Windmill Village, as seen in my video above. This is the better choice because you can stack Milicent's Prosthesis and EITHER RWSI or Winged Sword Insignia. Since you can always get Winged Sword Insignia, it's best to take Milicent's Prosthesis so you can do Prosthesis + Winged Sword Insignia, and then in NG+ replace that with RWSI.

This guide will show you how to get the Wing of Astel as early and easily as possible. This requires killing Radahn and progressing Ranni's questline, so I'll show you how to prepare for the Radahn bossfight and how to do Ranni's quest. Then I'll show you how to upgrade it to +10 as easily as possible.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
===========================================
-Why it's wasteful to level Endurance for heavy armor:
Endurance required to medium roll with Knight's set: literally none by itself because it only weighs 25.3
Protection provided (avg across all negations): ~22%
Endurance required to medium roll with Bull Goat's set: 40
Protection provided (avg across all negations): ~31%
So you can put *more than 40 points into Endurance* (the numbers provided above were for JUST the armor, with no weapons or talismans equipped) for a 9% damage negation increase,
OR
Max HP at 40 Vigor: 1450
Max HP at 60 Vigor: 1900
Using 40 Vigor as a baseline (because you should ALWAYS have at LEAST 40 Vigor), you can put 20 additional points into it for a ~31% max HP increase. So 40 points for 9% more negation, or 20 points for 31% more HP. Which one do you think is better?
