AstroFarsographyHow long should your subs be? How much should you cool? What gain should you use? How can you get the most out of your CMOS camera? Dr Robin Glover of SharpCap talks us through the science behind deep sky astrophotography using today's modern CMOS imaging cameras.
In this talk Dr Glover brings up differences between CCD and CMOS, noise in images, temperature, sub length and how to make the most of our imaging time to get the best images. Covering subjects such as 'how long do your exposures need to be?' and 'How much should I cool my camera?'. A very technical talk that might seem intimidating to new-comers, but still provides invaluable information. I'm sure you'll come away from this lecture having learned something!
There are a couple of transitions within the video whilst I had to stop and restart the camera (limited movie length!) but since the audio was still recording; nothing has been lost! I hope you do forgive me.
The Practical Astronomy Show 2019 was an astronomy convention held in Kettering, Northamptonshire on the 9th March 2019. Vendors and accomplished individuals from the hobby were in attendance and talks were available from the likes of Paul Money (AstroSpace), Niels Haagh (TTS), Gary Palmer, Dr Robin Glover & Damian Peach. Suppliers such as Tring Astronomy, The Widescreen Centre, Rother Valley Optics, Altair Astro, 365 Astronomy and many more.

These are all based against a full frame Canon 5D mk3 camera when it comes to the equivalent sizings.
Planets are judged whether they rise above 20 degrees altitude for long enough to be worthwhile, this ensures they get out of the most mucky part of the atmosphere for better seeing conditions.

/ @chaelofficialWhy Do We Hate The Super Moon?AstroFarsography2024-09-18 | The term "Supermoon" feels like it gets thrown around a lot these days. It also seems like it really annoys people. So... why do we hate the Supermoon?
For this video I surveyed the community and asked their feelings about the Supermoon, as well as looked at some articles and finding out information.
We begin with a bit of information on orbital mechanics, namings, phases and then the history of the Supermoon and then why do we hate it?
I hope you enjoy. I'm trying new things now with my channel and adding a little more astronomy into it as well as the astrophotography. Let me know your thoughts!

HemisphereAstroFarsography2023-01-29 | The Night Sky February 2023 is here and we begin saying farewell to our emission nebulae as galaxy season begins to rear its head.
The Night Sky is a curated list of deep sky targets, planets and other events that happen in our night skies during February in the Northern Hemisphere.
All targets are split into focal length ranges and are based off of a full frame camera sensor. However equivalent focal lengths are provided.
To use equivalent sizes is simple. Find the camera you're using and see what focal length I've supplied. This is the focal length of telescope you need to match the example I've suggested.
All planets are from my latitude in the United Kingdom of about 52° North and I only include them if they rise above 20° altitude for a decent amount of time during the month. So depending on how high or low you are will vary your seeing conditions!
Clear skies everyone, keep looking up and keep them cameras clicking.

This isn't a beginner's guide to editing. In this video I'm going to assume that you're at least comfortable with editing images in Photoshop. As such, I don't go as slow as I would if I was teaching new-comers.

Isolated - AbandonedI Compared A Hydrogen Filter Against A Dual Narrowband FilterAstroFarsography2022-08-30 | In this video I'm going to compare a ZWO 7nm Hydrogen Alpha filter against the 7nm Dual Narrowband Optolong L-eXtreme filter.
However in this video I'm going to just compare the Hydrogen-Alpha channels during a Full Moon. The reason why I chose Full Moon is because people often use Hydrogen-Alpha filters during Moon phases in order to cut through the Moon glow.
Bare in mind this is a dedicated Hydrogen-Alpha filter vs a Dual-narrowband filter and NOT a ZWO vs Optolong filter for example.
I'm going to be comparing the Moon glow resistance, contrast as well as signal-to-noise ratio. It's often cited to not use a Hydrogen-Alpha filter with a colour camera.

I've used this telescope for some time now and in this video I'll share my thoughts about the capabilities of this compact triplet telescope.
It has been my telescope of choice for about 6 months, proving to have great uses especially with the ASI 183 camera, however using the ASI 071mc Pro also yielded some interesting results!

We see our lens or mirror getting grubby and rush to polish it to a reflective shine once more. In truth we shouldn't clean our optics that often, but if they're really bad, really dusty or are beginning to impact image quality then it's time to clean.
In this video I'll walk you through my workflow from start to finish in only a few steps. Cleaning a refractor can take but a couple minutes, a large Newt will take longer. This process could also work on the corrective plates for Maks and SCTS. I hate to write this but I can't accept any responsibility for your optic's condition for following this guide.

Aside from my Birthday, in this video I give you several examples of what Deep Sky Objects to image at several focal lengths. As well as any planets, the Lunar Phases and meteor showers.
The suggestions I give in the video are based from using a full frame camera (such as a Canon 5D). If you're using cameras with much smaller or larger chips then your results will vary. But I give equivalent focal lengths!
If you have any other target ideas, be sure to share them in the comments section and consider subscribing to be alerted of the next time I upload!
Also suggestions are given from my observation site in the Midlands of the United Kingdom. I try to include a variety of focal lengths, but I wouldn't be able to account for every combination of scope and camera out there :(
Clear skies all, keep looking up and keep them cameras clicking.

So I asked the nice people at First Light Optics to send me some. I've had use of the Celestron SkyMaster 15x70 Binoculars. In this video I'll share my thoughts and feelings about these nice sized binoculars.
The suggestions I give in the video are based from using a ZWO ASI 071mc Pro as the camera. This represents an average of DSLR user's 1.6x and 1.5x crop factors. If you're using cameras with much smaller or larger chips then your results will vary. But I give equivalent focal lengths!
