is dumb, it's a bad game mechanic in Battlefield 6 or in any of the recent Battlefield games. It's likely something put in as a workaround or shortcut solution since it would have required far more work to correct the lighting, textures, etc. involved in the other Battlefield titles to make 3D spotting unnecessary. Although in some cases it requires developers to change their mindset and understand that you need to simplify some things first before making others complex or more detailed. Trying to make everything pretty just makes everything blend together. Yes some of them are reticle or crosshair spotting but in older games that was limited to much closer distances and only showed the player name and health bar, not a bright icon above their head that often showed through objects, structures, and terrain.
Anyways the end result of 3D spotting is it trains players to react and look for 3D icons, triangles, diamonds, etc. and not player models or soldiers. You're training players to be worse at your game with these game mechanics. Passive or reticle/crosshair spotting was already at broken levels at the end of BF5 and into BF2042, Battlefield 6 is at a whole other level. With how big a swing DICE and EA are taking with BF6 now is a great time to try and reset/remove this mechanic or at least how about removing 3D spotting of infantry and maybe try and return to supporting the rock paper scissors game design of Battlefield by having only vehicles be 3D spotted.
I'm also concerned about muzzle flash and other weapon effects obstructing the players view to the point where you need 3D spotting like with some of the examples in the video. The other concern associated with that is aim assist tends to see through those effects giving an unfair advantage like it has in other FPS multiplayer games Apex Legends is a good example of this.
