Magic Jones - The Best is Yet to Come (Original Rock Song) Magic Jones 2022-12-28 | Putting so much effort into this musical journey has its ... serendipities? I started this song right after my cover of Paul McCartney's, "Wonderful Christmastime", and had no idea what it would be about. It began as the cloud-like synth, and in a few days, I had the chord progression mapped out. I then started the lyrics and wrote the first verse expecting it to be a happy song, but as soon as I got to the chorus, I knew something was up. During the writing of the third verse, it became apparent this song was going to be about death from the angle of "The Best is Yet to Come". None of it made sense, but at this point, that's kind of the norm for my music writing. Anyway, a few days later, after the main structure was more or less solidified, I was talking with a good friend of mine who works in the healthcare industry, and without getting into any specifics, he mentioned to me how a lot of people around him are dying and it's affecting him more than usual. While he's talking, I am somewhat in disbelief as it becomes evident that this song was written for him. Interesting how things like this happen - and this isn't unique. Stuff like this has happened dozens of times in the past few years. Kinda cool, huh? Magic Jones - Between Me And You (Original Rock Song) Magic Jones 2022-07-23 | So, sometimes my songs are just fun ditties that come into my head on a whim, and some come from somewhere deep inside. This song came from a conversation with someone very close to me, who I've known for 16 years, but never took time to really get to know. Anyway, we had a heart-to-heart, and came to know of some deep differences in our beliefs and world-views. It finally got to the point of deciding if I should throw away our relationship, or put a microscope to my own beliefs. I'm grateful I chose the latter, and that is what this song is all about.As I was writing, it also came clear that this is a message to not only me but to a hurting world at large. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my own beliefs it can become a jail cell without me even knowing it. When I find myself in this position, I usually think it's the opposite. I believe everyone else is trapped in the "wrong" and I am free in my "right". It's hard to take a close look at myself because I know when I do, I usually have some things that need changing, and change is hard. From my experience, though, nothing too terrible usually comes from introspection, deeply considering what may or may not be true.Anyway, that's the longest intro to a song I've ever written. During the end credits, I heard this amazing song being sung by who I assumed at the time to be Lady Gaga. I immediately knew I needed to cover it. It rings the same sentiment as "Lean On Me" by Bill Withers which I covered in June of 2020. Anyway, the more I listened, the more this song came to life - giving a message that so many need today. Magic Jones - Youll Still Be You (Official Music Video) [Original Soft Rock Song] Magic Jones 2021-01-13 | So, there's a phenomenon that I'm pretty sure a lot of people go through (I definitely did when I was a kid) that I've never tried to explain before, but for some reason, about 3 weeks ago, while I was producing my song, Something To Say, it came straight to the forefront of my mind, and I knew I needed to write a song around it. What I'm talking about is ... being scared of "losing yourself" if you decide to change some aspect of yourself that is keeping you down. For example, the mindset of "I just wouldn't be me if I didn't (insert any number of negative attributes here)" or "I'm not the type of person to go out of my way to (insert any number of positive attributes here). It's weird. It seems people won't risk becoming a better person because they might not like what comes out the other side. This song is all about struggling to become the best version of yourself, whatever that might look like. Don't be afraid of letting things go that are keeping you down, or trying new things that might help someone else.
