This is a Motormouth couple car review of the first Chinese EV to arrive in Canada under the new rules, the Tesla Model 3 compact sedan. Because this car is made in China, the price has been set at just $39,400 CAD
Let’s get into the specs. We are driving the Tesla Model 3 Premium RWD model which is made in China for the Canadian market. It has up to 463 km of range and a 0-100 km/h time of 6.2 seconds. The Canadian model uses an LFP battery which can be charged to 100%.
In the US, the Tesla Model 3 Premium RWD model has a different battery and that reflects the range and time, it has 343 miles and a quicker 0-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds.
The Tesla Model 3 Premium AWD model has up to 570 km/332 miles of range, 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds.
The Tesla Model 3 Performance AWD Model 3 has up to 505 km/309 miles of range. 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds and 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds.
The US also has a base Tesla Model 3 RWD model with up to 321 miles of range. 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds.
In Canada, the Tesla Model 3 Premium RWD and AWD models are made in China. The Canadian Performance model is made in the US. All US Model 3’s are made in the US.
The Tesla Model 3 Premium RWD Model 3 comes with an incredible number of standard features including a 15.4” touchscreen, 8” rear touchscreen, 9-speaker Tesla audio system, two wireless chargers, power front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, leatherette upholstery, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, ambient lighting, a fixed glass roof, 360-degree acoustic glass and a powered trunk. All this for $39,490 CAD/$42,490 USD.
Premium AWD $49,990 CAD/$47,490 USD. In the US, there is an affordable base RWD model with less features for $36,990.
The full-self driving feature can be added for $99/month.
At a DC Fast charger with speeds up to 175 kW, the RWD Premium model can charge up to 259 km/161 miles in 15 minutes. The AWD Premium Model 3 up to 277 km/172 miles in 15 minutes with speeds up to 250 kW.
