Lately I have seen a lot of misinformation about resin and it's properties floating around Facebook and the internet, and wanted to make this video to clarify a few things about it. The take-away from this video is: do your research, understand the products you are using and how to use them safely, and don't always trust the random things mentioned on the internet. Not just for resin, this goes for all the materials you use in your art and even in your daily life.
In short:
Yes all resin is toxic in it's unmixed liquid form. When mixed together it becomes inert, meaning it will no longer react with any other substance.
Yes, some resins are rated as food safe. There are strict regulations around this and if it has been rated by the FDA and the EFSA then it has undergone thorough testing to achieve this rating.
Some resins are heat resistance, but others are not. Do some research and choose the correct resin for your application.
ALL resins will yellow over time. Companies that advertise flat out that they will not are lying.
No, resin is not archival, nor does it need to be.
ALWAYS wear the appropriate safety equipment when handling resin.
