A fellow ham reported some transient interference coming from a local digipeater that was using the Alinco DR-135 2m FM transceivers. He found that they had a significant frequency instability at key-up, and asked me to verify and document this in a video. This video takes a look at two different DR-135 rigs. I also take a look at an older Kenwood TM-231A and an Icom rig for comparison. It is clear from this video that the Alincos definitely have a serious frequency instability upon key up of the transmitter. A Tektronix RSA306B and the companion SignalVu-PC software is used to characterize the units.
