This game is a souls-like Action RPG developed by Hexworks and published by CI games which is considered a sequel/soft reboot of the 2014 Lords of the Fallen game. Occurred more than a thousand years after the first game, you will be playing as a new protagonist (mainly referred as the "Lampbearer" or "Dark Crusader"), who was revived by a mysterious artifact called the Umbral Lamp. Upon revival, you are immediately tasked by a certain Exacter Dunmire in journeying the lands of Mournstead and to cleanse the five beacons corrupted by Adyr's presence who, like in the first game, is still sealed and seeks to be freed to reclaim his rule on the land of the living. Utilizing the Umbral lamp to travel between the land of the living called Axiom and the land of the dead called Umbral and its capability to absorb anything it is used to, you will be traveling the world of Mournstead and learning the events that led to its post-apocalyptic state and the differing factions serving differing "gods" that intends to rule the land in their own way. To what will your journey end up is to your own choosing.

A game which received Metracritic scores of 70 (PS5), 75 (PC), and 77 (XBXS) at launch. Praises were given mainly on its combat which is considered an improvement of the genre introduced by the Dark Souls series and the ability to travel between two worlds which were decently implemented without too many issues. However, criticisms were provided on its uninteresting story; forgettable supporting characters; bug/glitches and performance issues at launch; and its unbalance difficulty in New Game plus.

As for me, I love this series being a big fan of the Souls-like genre and from playing its previous title. It is obviously inspired and adapted the dark fantasy medieval vibe popularized by the dark souls series. Although I disagree that it improved on the souls game combat, what this game did better are the designs of its weapons and armors which are so much better than any of the souls game had shown. I also liked the jump between Axiom and Umbral mechanic since it is the most unique the game did which sets it apart from other souls-like game, it is smooth and is a good addition for doing some puzzles in the game. However, I agree on the issues of the story/npcs as well as the endings, they were really not that interesting and the npc did not even help you a bit in learning the lore of the story. I also HATED the fact that you need to increase particular stats to unlock the lores of various equipments and items in the game which is both nonsensical and depriving since you limit yourself to a particular build just to learn the lore of each said items/equipment. Further at launch, the fact that you need to die first before you have an opportunity to summon an npc for help is stupid as hell considering one npc questline is tied for summoning her for boss fights. As for the ending, it is too ambiguous and unsatisfying unlike the first game which at least had a decent closure of the story. However, the best thing the developer did for me, is it did not give up in improving the game, not only did they patched it up to run smoothly, but they also rebalanced the game and made quality of life improvements such now being able to summon npcs without dying against the boss first and making a dedicated jump button and coop with shared universe. Overall, a decent addition to the growing souls-like games and is recommended for fans of the genre, enjoy the walkthrough!!!
