Grand Theft Auto is a series that gamers either love or hate. I’m in the former category, but we have some people in the office here that are most certainly in the latter. The biggest issue people tend to have with the Grand Theft Auto games is the fact that there are no rules. When given that kind of freedom without true consequence, people tend to do some pretty horrible things. The fact of the matter is, Grand Theft Auto (all iterations) has been revolutionary in the gaming world. You may or may not like what the series stands for, but at the end of the day you have to pay some respect to its undeniable influence on the current state of gaming culture. Imagine the gaming landscape had Grand Theft Auto III not been a sandbox game. Kind of tough to do, isn’t it? Grand Theft Auto opened up a world of possibilities and without it, I doubt we’d have half of the hit games that we do today. Sure, someone probably would have done it eventually, but Rockstar nailed it on their first go. If they hadn’t, it’s pretty unlikely you’d have Assassin’s Creed, Saints Row or Destiny in your collection right now.
