32 First Kiss

I kissed a handheld mirror,
At my girlfriends house next door,
She said we where practicing,
But I didn’t know what for.

I was only nine years old,
In the year of fifty-seven,
Kay was a latchkey kid,
Going on eleven.

Later we played doctor,
But I didn’t know the rules,
Kay tried to fill me in,
But I didn’t have a clue.

The next day Kay said,
We would put the mirror away,
That we would kiss for real now,
And play house that whole day.

The kissing part was easy,
Then kay gave me a wedding ring,
Turns out that playing doctor and playing house,
Were just about the same thing.

I played alone with interest,
But didn’t know what the game was about,
Kay then got real mad at me,
Opened the door and kicked me out.

Now this might be a world record,
If I may be both brazen and bold,
To be the only kid around,
Who got divorced at nine years old.
