The Nostalgic Gamer presents 30 Years of Capcom: Player Edition.

An overview of the many fans of the Japanese company.

Editor's Notes: The premise for this video began with a look at the company's presence outside of video games and evolved to feature the many fans of Capcom during its 30 years in the industry. Some of these fans you may be familiar with while others you may not be. Looking back on the impact it's had on players all over the world, Capcom has one of the most creative and dedicated fanbases out there and they've become a part of what makes being a Capcom fan so great. This is a tribute to the many people who continue to express their love and passion in so many different ways. As you'll see in the video, this includes short films, animations, music artists, fan-made games, musicals, anime, TV shows, gaming communities, and feature length films. The footage you will see in this video is almost entirely made by fans and players. When creating a video like this, the options can seem endless (and they were), so in the interest of time, there were some things that worked best in this format and received more attention than others. Here's some additional notes regarding the video:

One of the things that couldn't have a big focus in the video was the fan music community. Featuring many of the different music artists was something that would've made this video go on for too long. Still, each song featured in this video is a remix of an original track from one of Capcom's games:
Marvel vs. Capcom, Mega Man, Gyakuten Saiban, and Street Fighter

During the Mega Man-focused segment, all of the gameplay footage shown is from games created by fans. The music track is "Flashman" from Hyadain. Understanding the lyrics for this segment is not required, but if you decide to look it up, you may notice some of the clips syncing up with the lyrics.

One of the most memorable things about the Ace Attorney (Gyakuten Saiban) series is the unique sprite animations of the characters. For instance, in the anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, there is an episode featuring a segment designed as a tribute to the games where the characters animate just like certain characters in the games. Looking at the sprites for comparison, the intention can be seen clearly. This type of imitation was also seen a lot in the musical and feature film. The music track for this segment is a combination between two artists, Magical Trick Society and Smooth McGroove.

When it came to fan-created works and adaptations outside of the games, the largest communities were Resident Evil and Street Fighter. In the interest of time, both franchises were focused on together in one tightly-packed segment. The music track for this segment is "Flying Heaven" by zircon.

The segment focusing on the fighting game community highlights some of the top players in the world who've become famous from playing various Capcom fighting games. It starts with one of the earliest match videos ever recorded and goes through some of the most well-known tournament matches over the years. The matches featured couldn't be shown in their entirety since it would've made the video too long so they've been shortened down to just the highlights. Still, the matches featured are worth watching in their entirety online if you're interested. Also, the game that one player holds up after winning is Sengoku Basara X, a fighting game co-produced by Arc System Works (Guilty Gear, Blazblue) and Capcom, his personal favorite game. The music track for this segment is "Time To Oil Up" by zircon.
