Welcome to the 30 Days of Editing Challenge!

We've all been there - stuck in rut, inspirational block, can't seem to get any thoughts into the program. I've been feeling this way myself, just feeling like I can't do this, that I'm not good at fan editing, that I shouldn't be editing, why do I bother editing? It's like writer's block, or any creativity block. So, I decided I needed to do something to help myself and also help other editors. Those of us who still love to edit, but maybe need a push or nudge in the right direction.

The idea behind this was taken from those 30 day challenges. You know the ones that have a list of something you share on social media for 30 days. Well, this is similar to that except in an editing format.

---General Information--------

For the next 30 Days, starting this evening, I will be post a prompt video for the 30 Days of Editing. I'll be posting these in the evenings for me - as that seems to work best for my schedule - but that's when the prompts will show up. You can edit with any fandom, any song, any pairing. You can go as fancy or as simple as you want. The sky's the limit really. The idea is to get yourself editing while having fun. You can challenge your friends who edit, do kind of an encourage each other to edit. Make new friends.

The idea is to have fun and to encourage one another. Fan editing is kind of like art in a way - sometimes you just need a push to create.

So now I'm sure you're wondering, what are the rules? Here's the rules, there's only two. I kid you not.

Rules
1. The edit has to follow the prompt rules for that day - so if the rule is to do an edit with a singular fandom, you can only use one fandom in your edit. Follow the given day's prompt.
2. You must include the following hashtags when you post your video.
30DaysofEditing
&
30DaysDay"Number" (so for day one you'd put 1 instead of "Number" at the end)

Simple. Follow the prompt and share. And give credit when credit is due - so if you use a coloring made by another editor, etc.

---A Few Tips on Participation--------

Here a few general tips on participating in the 30 Days of Editing Challenge.

Tip 1
Set a time frame when you start this. So, if you want to do an edit a day, do an edit a day and keep your momentum to doing an edit a day. If you want to spread this out so you have a little more time, set yourself a given time. Or make it a weekend challenge thing. It helps to have a buddy to encourage you - so if you need some extra motivation, create a buddy system.

Tip 2
If you're following a long with the prompts, I suggest doing shorter edits of a minute to a minute and a half of a song. You can go shorter - in fact, seeing shorts with this challenge would also be fun to see what people do. But the idea is to be making a full edit.

Tip 3
Get in your basic clips and then go back and polish things up and make things fancy. Now, you can also use this to explore different styles of editing - you can again go as fancy or as simple as you want. It's all up to you. Feel free to challenge yourself more if you so want to. The idea is to have fun with no pressure on the editing.

Tip 4
You can do this challenge at any time - it's not set for the month of July and that's it. You can join in any time and you can pick and choose what you do. For example, if you want a shorter experience, do 15 challenges instead of 30. Again, it's easy to adjust this to meet your needs and time table. Don't feel tied down to anything. The idea is to make a plan and stick with it. You can encourage your fellow editors who choose to do this. I'll be planning on making a playlist for each Challenge Day and the edits that show up.

Tip 5
Include those two hashtags in the description of your video - let people know you're doing a challenge and don't be shy on asking someone to be your buddy. If you need a buddy, feel free to to comment on this video! Editing is a safe place for all and everyone is welcome!

Tip 6
Last little tip for this challenge series - don't be afraid to think outside of the box. For example, if the rule is edit with your favorite song, well, my favorite song changes from week to week. You can pick a song that is currently your favorite, one that you've listened to a lot since you found it, etc. There's no pressure in: oh my favorite song changed last year and now it's no longer my favorite song. That's fine! People change - consider your "favorites" a this was my favorite in the moment. Or if you have set favorites that you've loved since you were little, this is your chance to use it! Again - there's no real limit to what you're allowed or not allowed to do.
