One must fly to LUKLA AIRPORT from Kathmandu Airport before starting EVEREST BASE CAMP TREKKING. Weather conditions in Lukla are very unpredictable all the time, I had to wait 3 full days before I could manage to fly Lukla from Kathmandu Airport. These videos contain all the footages I filmed at Kathmandu Airport and some air time videos.
LUKLA AIRPORT
The airport is situated in Solukumbu district of Nepal at the height of 2860 meters (9383 Feet). This is also known as Tenzing–Hillary Airport. The base for all the trekkers, mountaineer, climbers before starting or after finishing the climbing around Everest & other surrounding the Himalayas.
FIRST DAY:
I had just arrived from Darjeeling, India the night before and my plane was supposed to fly in the morning 8:30 AM. I reached to the airport at 7 AM, board the plane and even flew on the air for about 15 minutes. We were about to reach Lukla and radio in cockpit says, Lukla airport got bad weather and can't be landed. So we come back to Kathmandu Airport and wait in the boarding hall till evening if the airport in Lukla, Solukhumbu get's clear. At last, flight got canceled.
DAY 2:
I go to the airport again early morning with the hope to fly Lukla, but again that didn't happen as only first two flights could only fly. And if your flight is a pending flight then you got later and later and later.
At the evening I went to Thamel to meet my friend Phunjo Lama, who is the first Nepali girl to climb 8000 meters + summit without oxygen, she is professional international mountain rescuer, the first girl again from Nepal.
I also met many another friend there from many different countries.
DAY 3:
The third day again I went to Kathmandu Domestic Airport in hurry with a dream to fly to Lukla but that didn't happen again. Most of the people started getting frustrated. Those who could afford flew by helicopter, and those who couldn't keep waiting. The cost of the helicopter is about 300 US$ per individual. Basically, 5 people can come in a helicopter and all book a helicopter and share the cost.
DAY 4 :
7 AM, I was at my cousin's house with plan to go Lukla by bus via Jiri that means 3 more days of trekking. But suddenly a call from a friend who works in the same Sita Airlines comes and ask me if I want to fly, there is one ticket cancel, they can replace me. So I immediately ran to the airport without evening washing my face or brushing. And yes, I finally flew to Lukla. It's very common in Kathmandu airport people waiting for many days to fly to Lukla.
