#unbound #cycling #amazonlocker #bikes10 Cycling Commandments according to The Vegan CyclistPlant Strong Cycling2024-05-11 | @TheVCAdventures
The Vegan Cyclist's 10 Cycling Commandments: 1. Love Your Family. 2. Go Do an Impossible Ride. Any ride can be your impossible ride - whether it’s 30 miles or 300 miles or 3,000 miles. All impossible rides are equal in that they seem “impossible” to the rider. 3. Future You is a Real Person - your choices matter - finishing the ride matters. 4. Throw Away Your Excuse List, and instead create a “why I should list”. You got two voices in your head - 1 saying to quit, and the other saying keep going. Don’t listen to either of them, and get on your bike and complete the task you set out to do. 5. Share your journey on social media for accountability and motivation. Build hype, and if everyone knows what you’re going to do, then quitting becomes harder. Prove your support team right, prove the doubters wrong. 6. Break through the illusion of limits; surpass your perceived boundaries. What your body “Thinks” you can physically do is WILDLY different from what your mind says your body can actually do. The massive wall that says “this is the end, you cannot go any further” is probably only the halfway point of what your body is actually capable of. Keep riding. Push through mental barriers and keep going, even when it's tough. 7. Stay patient during tough times; situations can change quickly. If you set out on the big ride, you're halfway through, being rained on, out of energy and motivation, low on fuel -- be patient because your circumstances can change instantly at any moment. What you see as negative in the moment may be the darkness you need to appreciate the light later. Embrace the lows and struggles to appreciate the highs and joy of success 8. Be a genuine human being who listens to others and cares about people. 9. Recognize the addictive power of cycling and manage it responsibly. Don’t destroy your family or body for the ride. Train hard, ride hard, but for the sake of becoming a better human for your family. Pursue diverse interests to find validation beyond cycling. 10. Misc Catch All: Drink your calories, keep your body warm, skinny is good (but fat can be better), pace yourself at the beginning, then destroy people at the end when they’re noodling and you’re feeling great.

Check out my race recap: youtube.com/watch?v=qIEwvwbau44&feature=youtu.beUnbound 2023 Gravel Race Recap featuring Mud, Rain, Gravel and Cinematic Landscapes 4KPlant Strong Cycling2023-06-10 | This is the story about the time I went to Emporia, Kansas to ride 206 miles on gravel roads in a race called Unbound, the premier gravel race that attracts pros and amateurs and even nobody’s (like myself) from all over the world.
How did I do it? Reframing negative circumstances into positive advantages. (the perks of being an optimist)
Bike Setup: Canyon Grizl CF SLX 8 with front suspension Pedals: Crankbrother Flats WTB Venture Tires 700x50mm Tires (didn't flat!) Kit: Eliel El Capitan EFT 2023 Jersey; Del Dios Bibs Water: USWE Hydration Pack POC Helmet Fanny Pack: Cotopaxi
STORY & FRAME OF MIND The amount of times I heard people say that I’m mentally strong for completing this race is insane - it seems like everyone saw this as an exceptionally challenging year with the weather and mud. But this was my first Unbound, and my first time to ride gravel for more than 90 miles, so my expectations were way off compared to all the Unbound veterans out there.
Unfair Advantage #1: The Mud From Mile 11 - 14 we were walking because the mud was too thick to ride through.
The Upside: - I wore flat shoes: I know 0 about running but people around me said I had running shoes on. Dope. - Another Upside: when I got back on my bicycle at mile 14, I’ve never been happier to push those pedals, and later in the race around mile 175 we had another mile of walking, but I was ready for it mentally. - Final upside: I got to make a ton of jokes.
The Downside: I never trained to deal with the mud. Didn’t practice any walking.
Unfair Advantage #2: it stormed so hard for 30 minutes when I was 100 miles in.
Upside - The rain cooled me down quickly, cleaned all the mud and cow poop off me and the bike, and it was my first time to ride through a storm. Also, the headwind was no longer miserable. - After the storm ended and I knew it wasn’t going to happen again, I was about 110 miles in, it was 3:30pm, and something incredible happened that I’ve never experience before: - I was reborn on the bicycle. The only way I can explain it is that new life ran through me as if I were invincible. I even told the people I was riding with that my fear now was that I’d finish and people would see it as no big deal: “Obviously you finished, it was the easiest race ever”. - My fear up until this point was that I’d hit a mile marker and thing “oh crap, I can only do 30 more miles at the most and then I’d be in a bad head space just aiming for like 150, or 175. - After mile 110, I had no doubt I’d finish. No doubt at all.
One thing I hear my favorite cyclist talk about all the time is to think about future you: I didn’t like the idea of thinking about future me saying “I tried really hard, and 100 or 150 miles is still a ton, but i just went too hard” no. It had to be the whole thing in my mind.
But I can say that just 3 years ago I could barely ride 3 miles on a bicycle - which brings me to say this about Unbound: if a nobody like me can complete this race, anybody can do it. There is 0 things special about my genetics, 0 things that give me the upper hand physically. I trained intentionally for 5 months to prepare for this race, made dietary decisions in preparation for this race, and what I discovered is that racing Unbound was the most fun I’ve ever had on a bicycle.

I had grand plans to do a big video production, but since I'm a failure of a cyclist with vegan excuses, I did not get to fulfill those plans. However, I had an amazing day at my first race, and you can find out "How Not to Win" this kind of race by watching my full length recap here: youtube.com/watch?v=CagV5RjQfkgHow to Not Win a Gravel Bike RacePlant Strong Cycling2023-02-09 | Here's a quick recap of how I prepared for my first gravel race, started the race, and then didn't finish the race. Plus, you'll get a taste of the first 1/3 of the course from the GoPro 10 POV.
This was a 100 mile race that was split into 2 laps, and I thought I'd grab my extra batteries and now where and how to film for a better video production during my 2nd lap... unfortunately the 2nd lap didn't happen.
If you're asking "how do I get started gravel racing?" I have a list of things not to do. 1. don't ride a mountain bike 2. don't let your feet freeze 3. don't go without a map 4. don't go alone 5. don't wait til the last second to go pee 6. don't wait til the race begins to put your gloves on 7. don't try new sunglasses for the very first time on race day 8. don't sign up 3 days before the race and expect to have a great outcome
With that being said, this was a super fun ride and I'm glad I did it. The organizers were fantastic and made my first experience of racing incredible. I had a couple friends racing and it was great to catch up with them. The food was great, and they even had a vegan option.

The info below is taken directly from the mtbpoject.com website.
Overview This featured ride utilizes the outermost trail of this trail system to form a big loop that delivers fast, flowing singletrack and some sections of tech where you'll have to pick a clean line.
Description Many riders prefer riding this loop in the counter-clockwise direction (as mapped), which immediately starts you out on a descent with some steep ups and downs, before heading across a field, then crossing the road toward the lake.
After Natediggity, riders will work into the woods for 3 J's. After a short distance, the singletrack splits. Go left for a more gradual descent or go right down a steep, manageable drop. At the bottom of the hill, you'll turn left back towards the dam on Bono Push for a straightforward climb up to the intersection with High Flow Trail and Low Flow Trail.
Keep right on High Flow Trail for a gradual climb through the trees and beneath power lines to enjoy the fast flowing turns at the southern end. At the bottom, you could head up Low Flow Trail if you wanted to add some mileage. Otherwise, continue through the easy Southforks to reach V-Twins.
On the west part of this trail, you can really build some speed as you work back and forth through the corners. There are a few small downed trees in the trail before riders reach "The Elevator," an uprooted tree stump covered in dirt that is a fun up and down (no technical skills required to ride over this).
As you make it back to the east side of the lake, you'll come to the Boulders of Bono, which offer a technical rock garden where you'll want to focus on choosing a good line for your tires between all of the many rocks.
After this rocky traverse, U2x3 leads around the edge of the hill and down through the grassy lake bottom. At the next intersection, riders can choose from Upper Dino and Lower Dino for some easygoing singletrack that makes a nice cool-down back to the start.
Ride the trail clockwise for a different challenge with a big climb at the end. There are also motocross trails at this facility and they do occasionally cross the MTB trails.

We appreciate your understanding: BECAUSE WE ARE A CHARITY ORGANIZATION, THIS YEAR WE CANNOT OFFER REFUNDS OR ROLLOVERS... RIDE GOES ON RAIN OR SHINE!
Riding Safety: Our riders', volunteers' and community members' safety is among our top priorities each year. Extensive SAG service will be provided, including local first responders. HELMETS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL RIDERS, INCLUDING CHILDREN IN BUGGIES & BIKE SEATS. Cyclists must obey all traffic rules. A message board will be provided at the Start/Finish Line. Type of Terrain/Routes: The Tour de Corn is flat for most of the ride, especially the shorter routes. Well-marked rural highways. Portions of the Mississippi River Cycling Trail on all routes. Approximate rides of 15-, 30-, 60 or 100!! The 100-mile ride is a great "starter" ride for anyone wanting to do their first Century ride. Find our Tour de Corn maps and elevations (from previous rides) here.
Route Maps: We will provide the final official 2022 Tour de Corn Routes closer to spring once post-winter road conditions have been assessed. Printed route maps will be available at the registration table on the day of the ride. Additionally, we will provide GPS-based maps in June. Find our 2021 Tour de Corn maps here as a reference point.

#PlantStrongCycling #PlantStrong #VeganCyclistHow long is the battery life on the GoPro 10 Black? 2.5 hours. Is the stabilization good? YES!Plant Strong Cycling2021-10-22 | I was interested in answering the following questions. What is the GoPro 10's stabilization abilities? What is the battery life for the GoPro 10?
So here's what I did --
I created a point-of-view (POV) of a bicycle ride around Paragould, Arkansas with a GoPro 10 shot at 24 frames per second in 4K with the highest level of stabilization the camera offers.
BUT I used a different mounting option for this ride, and it was perfect minus 1 slip. I cut the issue out of the video to avoid it being annoying.
The camera is amazing and super impressive for the price of $399 (originally $599).
As of 10/22/2021 you can save $200 on the camera and 2 batteries with a dual charger: gopro.com/en/us
I ran 2 batteries completely dead, and they lasted about 2.5 hours total.
