In this video, I used a vintage simplicity pattern from 1954 to make myself the sailor dress of my dreams. I had so much fun making this. I went over the instructions given in the vintage patterns, while making changes as I saw fit to suit my personal needs, and my personal sewing style. Including ignoring the machine zipper instructions to put in a zipper by hand instead.

Music from ArtListMaking my Gown for the Grand Ball at Versailles || Sewing a Robe a la Francaise from the 1760sSewstine2023-06-25 | Once a year at Versailles, they throw a ball called the "Fetes Galantes". This year, for the ball, I wanted to make a truly epic gown. In this video, I describe the different steps it takes to make a gown, including information from what I learned studying other gowns I got to study personally at museums. I tried to be as historically accurate as possible, other than my liberal use of sewing machines to sew things that will not be seen on the finished gown. I also describe different methods and which patterns I used and how I adjusted them.

She was found under an abandoned house in Springfield, MO so it's not sure how old she was but she was between 11 and 13 years old. Then I'll get to how to get tickets - how to choose the tickets and activities, and tips for going.

Felicity's Blue Dress - or Felicity Merriman's Christmas (or Surprise) Dress - is honestly THE costume that got me into historical costuming. In this video, I talk about Felicity, Pleasant Company AKA American Girl Dolls, the plot of Felicity's Surprise, and then of course, I MAKE the dress. I used silk taffeta, linen and a lot of historically accurate sewing (and some historically inaccurate sewing!) in order to make the gown a reality. In particular, I go into the construction of the dress, which I believe was originally an "English gown", also known as a robe a l'anglaise.

In this video, I study the skirt in detail, and talk about the historical 1890s skirt it is likely based on. I then make the skirt and the bow, sewing it with modified historical techniques like flat lining, and tarlatan stiffening. I then try on the whole outfit.

I am so in love with the Sleepy Hollow Dress I made last year, but I very much wanted to make a shorter, more casual version that I could wear every day, as an "every day cosplay". I realized my aesthetic is cottagecore, but also just, costume-core, where everything is a secret cosplay. So in honor of this, I wanted to make this 18th century zone front dress, but as a one piece, easy to wear dress.
In this video, I show myself drafting the pattern, sewing it up, including boning the insides, and putting the stripes just so as in the movie. I utilize sewing a full circle skirt as well as showing how to pleat a skirt and put in on in the 18th century method.

Please keep in mind that this video will contain discussion of racism, and racist triggers, sexism, and racism and where they intersect, and will also contain spoilers. Please also keep in mind that while we are discussing this, we are not calling for a boycott or saying anything bad about all of us that consume these movies. However, realizing where representation fails and can be downright racist is essential to doing better in the future.

I've always really wanted a Robe a la Polonaise, and after seeing this portrait, I decided I needed one in hot pink. The dress is called a Robe a la Polonaise; and is popular circa 1780, from the Georgian Period in the 18th century. I use traditional, historically accurate sewing techniques including the English Stitch, as well as a combination of machien and fudging it.

I wanted to make myself a super frilly, ruffled, and lacy dress and matching pinafore apron, inspried by Candy Candy, an anime from the 1970s that was super popular in Korea all the way to the mid 90s. So for after looking through a lot of Candy Candy art, I've designed, drafted, and sewed the dress, and found an awesome pattern to make the apron with.
Music from ArtListI made Marie Antoinettes Scandalous Summer Dress || Sewing an 18th Century Chemise a la ReineSewstine2021-07-06 | The chemise a la reine was an absolute PR nightmare for Marie Antoinette when it first premiered in 1783 at the Salon in Paris. That didn't stop it from becoming the most popular gown for the next few years. I decided to make my own, based on an extant at the Musee de Toile de Jouy in France. In this video, I talk about the history of this gown, as well as make my own, including making hundreds of embroidered sprigs for the fabric.
I always get asked this: the yellow dress I’m wearing is from Linennaive.com !

Ok. So I have a habit of dressing my husband up in all sorts of costumes, be in 18th century clothing or my favorite Sci Fi characters. This time, I decided to make him a Darkling kefta (aka coat). This includes drafting the pattern for him based on an existing, digitizing the embroidery, stitching out the designs over 70 hours, and sewing the whole thing together. In this video, we'll analyze Ben Barnes wearing the costume, and then make the gorgeous Shadow and Bone costume.

I have recently gotten completely obsessed with the new TV show, Shadow and Bone! I do want to cosplay Alina, but even more than that, I want to costume a healer Grisha- so I went and did it! Since Alina wears the healer coat in Episode 2, I utilized screenshots from that episode to make mine.

I've wanted to make an "every day cosplay" of Belle's village dress (from Beauty and the Beast 1991) forever - I just think it's such a beautiful and flattering look for anyone. In this video, I discuss the every day corset look, the inspiration behind this project, and then proceed to make the bodice and the skirt. I also do a quick get ready with me (GRWM).

In this video, I go into the making of the francaise from this famous drawing/painting of Madam de Pomadour (pastels and gouche) by Maurice-Quentin Delatour. It lives in the Lourve, in a very empty part of the building, but I had the joy of going and seeking it out a few years back. It was worth the wandering! In this video, I go into the procuring of the fabric, the features that make up my ideal robe a la francaise, and then I go into making it!

I also talk about the history of fashion dolls, including the famous Lady and Lord Clapham who reside in the V and A. I then talk about modern fashion dolls - and ball jointed dolls - and how to size down a corset pattern for your doll, size it, and sew it. I also show how I made an 18th century pocket for my doll.

Hi everyone! I'm known for doing over the top, extravagant embroidery for my costumes. However, for the first year and a half, I did all of it on a one needle, starter home embroidery machine. I would like to give some tips, tricks, and explanations on how to get started in machine embroidery, from which machine to buy (and what features to look for in every budget), to what needle to use, and what stabilizer to buy. I used a Baby Lock Pathfinder to demonstrate this, as I no longer have my first machine and this is the currently available equivalent to that machine, in both price and function.
