Real Life ExperimentPainterInYou2017-10-30 | An oil painting needs to dry for 6-12 months before you can safely varnish it without negatively impacting your painting, but what happens if you varnish it too soon? Well we are about to find out! I am doing this experiment for the next year where I will be varnishing parts of a test painting at different points in time. We will be able to see what really happens when you varnish too early vs waiting the full 6-12 months. Note that I simply painted a canvas with oils and will then varnish it. I am not doing anything to increase the drying time of the painting. I am using Daler & Rowney Georgian oil paints and Windsor & Newton high gloss dammar varnish in this demonstration.

______ Music attribution: bensound.comBest Way to Varnish a Painting (Oil or Acrylic)PainterInYou2017-04-01 | In this video I share my technique for varnishing acrylic and oil paintings. I demonstrate the varnishing process using an acrylic painting as an example, but the same technique can be applied to oil paintings. I have found this is the technique that works best for me, based on trial and error over the past few years. This technique results in an even, smooth coat which will make your painting look rich and complete. Please note that your painting should be fully dry before considering varnishing it (6-12 months drying time for oils and 7 day drying time for acrylics). Between varnish coats, please allow 24 hours.
You can buy the same varnishing products I use on Amazon using the links below!

Many new artists think that they need to spend a lot of money on high end painting supplies for their paintings to look nice in the end. In this video, I explain why this is not true. I prove why expensive art supplies are a scam by doing a real life experiment. I created an identical painting - one with cheap supplies costing $2 to make, and one with expensive supplies, costing over 5 time the price at $11. I then polled a total of 119 people in the Painter In You Facebook group asking which painting they thought was the expensive one vs the cheap one. Watch the video to see what happened! You also have the opportunity to vote which painting you think cost more on this video by clicking the little "i" icon on this video (please make sure to vote BEFORE you hear me reveal the answer to eliminate any bias/cheating).
