This video is a 2g weld test like you might take for an aerospace welding job.
I used 304L stainless for this video but for an aerospace test, it would more likely be something like 17-7ph, or 15-7ph which are more difficult to weld.
2G is really not that much different than flat but x ray results were very different.
It seemed like twice as many failures happened on 2G tests than other positions.
thorough cleaning, especially the sheared edge...along with upward tungsten angle were key to passing the 2g tests.
Don't get me wrong, we didnt have all that many stainless tests fail.
But on aluminum, titanium, and magnesium, porosity was very common on 2g joints.
