New world record for The Legend of Zelda - any% no up+a speedrun, set on May 5th, 2020. This is the first PB towards my goal of getting a sub-28 minute time. I would say the timesaves are in Levels 1, 5, 7, and 9 now. Looking forward to improving this.
This run uses a couple of new things.
1) Manipulation
You'll notice that I enter Level 3 at a specific time. This sets up the darknut patterns and drops to a known value, therefore I'm able to anticipate movement and where I'll get drops. This saves between 6-14 seconds when done optimally.
2) Red Candle route
The mid-game route is much different than previous attempts. There is much less stress on bombs and money after Level 1. The blue candle route needed 60 rupees before entering 5 to buy the blue candle. Since the candle is only needed to open Level 8, the red candle in Level 7 is collected instead. This affects some things like using the recorder differently, and grabbing the ladder and raft hearts later in the run. You actually use the 'roocorder' trick, warping with the recorder and using the raft at the same time, which can send you to a screen NW of a dungeon location.
And yes, this run uses glitches. Quit whining about it :)
