Wagner Leitmotifs | 28 Impassioned Rapture : Tristan und Isolde @wagnerleitmotifs7654 | Uploaded August 2013 | Updated October 2024, 7 hours ago.
This leitmotif is first heard in act 2 scene 2.

This motif is a speeded up repeating version of the Rapture motif. It crashes through the Love Duet and Liebestod, representing a sudden welling up of emotion. Just as the pitch oscillates up and down, so too do the dynamics. This is particularly effective for 3 bars in the Liebestod, as Isolde is singing to this tune, she soars above the orchestra, then is overwhelmed but soars up again and again is overpowered, but again manages to crescendo up, vividly showing her wrestling with her emotions.
