Modustrial Maker | 250 POUND Reclaimed Beam Lamp || Music-Reactive LEDs || DIY Woodworking & Metalworking @modustrial | Uploaded 6 years ago | Updated 13 minutes ago
This episode shows how to make a DIY modern industrial LED floor lamp from a reclaimed timber beam and steel, with NO WELDING! This LED lamp has a music reactive mode, and involves some interesting woodworking skills, metal working with no welding, and a touch of CNC (although CNC is not required). I collaborated with Jonny Builds on this floor lamp, and he brought a 60-year old reclaimed wood beam up from Oklahoma City. I wanted this lamp to match the modern industrial style of brick and timber loft. I’m pretty pumped how it came out – hopefully you all enjoy it too!

We used a Shaper Origin router, combined with a traditional router, to create a cut-out for LED strips in the beam, and to cut matching white acrylic to serve as a diffuser for the LEDs. The Shaper Origin is similar to a CNC, but not exactly.
I used SK6812 WWA individually controllable LEDs combined with an affordable off-the-shelf LED controller that has music reactive modes, chasing modes, and solid color modes, with an RF remote. (goo.gl/u6Xj6Y) Since I designed this for my own loft, the music reactive / sound reactive modes couldn’t be all that this lamp can do. It had to function and look like a normal lamp as well. With this in mind, I used the SK6812 warm white / cool white / amber LED strips, instead of RGB LED strips. In solid color mode, the LEDs can be adjusted via remote to give off various shades of white for a sophisticated modern look that hides the wild side when you switch the light to music visualizer mode.
