On February 27, 1776, a small battle at Moore’s Creek Bridge became a major Patriot victory.

As Loyalist forces marched to join the British and reclaim North Carolina, Patriot militia set a trap—removing planks and greasing the bridge. At dawn, the Loyalists charged and were met with a burst of fire. In just three minutes, it was over.

The victory crushed Britain’s plans in North Carolina and strengthened the American cause.
