On April 25, 2019, legendary former head coach of UCLA's Women’s Gymnastics Team, Valorie "Miss Val" Kondos Field (BA '87), was the keynote speaker at UCLA Extension’s 23rd Annual Restaurant Industry Conference. She shared stories of her life and spoke of her initial difficulties as a reluctant gymnastics coach. She also talked about her book, "Life is Short, Don’t Wait to Dance," which is a tribute to her mentor, the famed UCLA basketball coach, John Wooden.
