A lot changed over the course of making this episode (you can probably feel it), and while I'm really excited about this episode, I'm even more excited to keep everything moving for the next bit; the big goal is to be able to finish these things a bit faster than every 3 years :P

Finally finished this up! Sorry to anyone who thought it was going to be longer; that'd be a blast some day, but this got it out of my system for now :)
Solid mix of hand animated stuff, physics sims, and data from a Rokoko mocap suit (learned a ton about IK rigging, too, to mix it all up)!

Just a quick intro to IK rigging! It's probably the most useful thing I learned last year (after putting it off for, like, literally a decade and a half).

I've been really excited about this type of workflow in terms of what it means for making crazy films in a garage, and I've been experimenting a bunch with it in the months since (tons of viewport compositing in Blender. All the CG stuff in this video is blender's realtime eevee engine, which has just been a blast). I use this trick all the time- it's a ridiculously quick way to add some randomness/realism to your scene/objects.

SO. We did one of these a while back, and it's all well and good- but this version lets you more creatively model full 360 buildings, instead of being constrained by the original image- which is often a lot more useful (AND... fun?)

Also! To find "CORRECT UVS"- since folks have been having some trouble- you have to make an edge loop first, and an adaptive menu appears in the lower left of the viewport giving you more options. You might have to click on an arrow to expand it.
Honestly I should have done this one a while ago. I've used it literally a hundred times. The best part is, once you have a building, you can use it over and over in different projects.

So, you can do it without, in the way shown in the video, but the BoolTool addon makes it just one hotkey, and it's fantastic.

For UV unwrapping, it's invaluable. Radivarig is a saint.
OH OH ALSO WOW- after you turn up the bevel depth in the curve panel, hit "ALT+C, convert to mesh". Then you can select the edge loop. Wow. That'll teach me to make these things at 4am.

Tracking was done in the After Effects 3d tracker. Literally just, like, one click (maybe a little babysitting), and 9 minutes later I had the motion copied into blender and the whole thing blocked out. It was incredibly straightforward. The Blender tracker is crazy powerful, but if I'm being lazy, it's really nice to be able to just click a button.
