โก๏ธJeep is taking another swing at electrifying adventure with the 2026 Recon, the first fully electric, Trail Rated Jeep, one that packs sports car-level acceleration, and promises real off-road ability. But the timing might raise eyebrows. With EV sales slowing, companies like Ram scrapping planned electric utilities and Jeepโs first EV, the Wagoneer S struggling for sales, is this the right moment to launch a $65,000 electric off-roader?
The Recon's dual-motor powertrain makes 650 hp and gets it to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, while the 100 kWh battery claims a 250-mile range. Instead of the Wrangler's solid axles and recirculating ball steering the Recon goes the independent and rack and pinion route. That should make it smoother on the road, but a Wrangler beats its approach, ramp and departure angles.
Jeep is launching the Recon in $65k off-road-themed Moab trim, but you can bet that other more affordable, and probably less powerful versions will follow. We'll find out next year when deliveries start whether Jeep's gamble to commit to the electric game has paid off.
