The Tepper School's Doctoral Diploma and Hooding Ceremony was held on May 8, 2026. The ceremony featured remarks from Thomas J. Sargent, William Berkley Professor of Economics, New York University and Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution, Stanford University. In 2011, he received the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, shared with Christopher Sims.
He returned to Carnegie Mellon with pleasure, having started his career there when the institution was still known as Carnegie Institute of Technology, and received an Honorary Doctorate of Science and Technology during the University's Commencement Ceremonies.
