Scruff?! SCRUFF?!? (I made this video before boco got added to the show today)
Boco’s back in the show! To little fanfare.. and mostly memes for Mattel bringing back OG Awdry characters.
The Boco discourse out there is wild.
I’m pretty sure modern day Boco has an overwhelmingly negative perception for circumstances that aren’t even from his character (or lack there of). He’s what most free-thinking users feel is the antithesis of everything that Mattel brings; this obscure, classic character with not much to him, leading to lots of fan service. This is why he’s been memed to hell even from the Brenner era when there were so many returnees.
I personally really like Boco because I’ve raced Boco cars my entire career and for years in online NASCAR racing. I’ve made hundreds of bocos for different types cars, in many games and even in real life form. My friends all cherish him for being so obscure and funny (just his own theme, him mentioning his entire class name, just his NAME being BoCo with two capitals…). I don’t think there’s much else to him that makes him good or bad. He’s the friendly diesel that has a chill and suave personality in my opinion. Why not have more big mixed traffic diesel engines?
If liking boco is counter culture, unpopular, etc, I will continue to be a boco fan.
