The Squash Squad is growing up! đąđ
Each year, we partner with Zoo New England to help raise baby turtles through their first winter, giving them a head start at survival before theyâre released back into the wild.
Our endangered Blandingâs turtle hatchlings (Acorn, Delicata, Butternut, and Spaghetti) have come a long way since last year, and theyâre not so little anymore. Back in August, they each weighed just ~8.6 grams. Now theyâre tipping the scales at 86â155 grams! đ€Ż
Recently, they hit a big milestone: trying live food for the first time. Letâs just say⊠there was a bit of a learning curve. Watching them figure it out was equal parts chaotic and adorable!
Behind the scenes, their care is starting to shift, too. Weâre gradually lowering their water temperature to match natural conditions as they get closer to their eventual release. Stay tuned for updates from their summer release!
