In this session of the 2025 Virtual RNDS, Dr. Benjamin Greenberg covered the alphabet soup of rare neuroimmune disorders and the major classifications that create diagnostic criteria. There are classifications based on anatomy—like MRIs showing damage to the spine, optic nerves, or brain—based on time, as in whether it reoccurs and how long symptoms last, and on biology, such as bloodwork and body makeup. These elements of classification are key to diagnosing typical and atypical presentations of rare neuroimmune disorders. Dr. Greenberg then went on to describe each rare neuroimmune disorder’s determining features individually, as well as describing the function and testing of antibodies.
