Number 20 in a daily series using the themes from the Hardware Jams group for Jamuary, The theme for today was to do something with “only kick sounds.”
That required some creativity (unless you’re just trying to do a rain dance.) The only sound input in this is the two kick sounds produced by the Arturia Drumbrute. That was routed into the Boss RC505MkII to incorporated four of its effects. That’s actually what I’m “playing” to make the song. The final output from that was split into two channels in logic and panned apart (L=-30, R=+30.) On the left we applied Mr. Wiggly’s Incinerator. On the right we applied the Moog MF102S RingMod. Finally, it was auto-mastered using Logic to tame it a bit as some of the Boss effects can go a bit mad. It’s a very experimental result. I hope you find it interesting, but it is nothing but Kick.

![Moog Muse... Is Mine Defective? UPDATE NUMBER 1
A few days ago I posted a video seeking help on identifying whether some issues I was having with the Moog Muse were global (i.e. affect everyone the same and requiring a firmware update) or were just happening to me (i.e. my Muse is defective, or Im doing something stupid that I havent figured it out yet.) Thanks to a remarkable response from everyone (including Moog reaching out TO ME) to assist this video will provide some answers.

Joe pointed me in the direction of your video, and Im sorry youre experiencing issues with Muse. I wanted to reassure you that the bugs you’re bumping up against are being worked through currently, but some of the team members have been affected by the storm so we’ve been slowed down a tad.
The current priority is to work through any latency issues like you’re experiencing with dropped notes. This is mainly due to complexity in the mod map on certain patches, and we’ve been working to optimize the underlying engine to adjust how note events are prioritized by the cpu. We’re in the process of testing a firmware that, so far in my testing, has corrected any issues Ive experienced around latency due to patch complexity. We still need to regression test to ensure the firmware doesnt create any further unforeseen issues, but we were getting close before Helene hit, so it shouldnt be much longer.
Currently the ANALOG clock mode via the clock input works as follows: it expects a consistent clock signal and, after receiving a few pulses, calculates a tempo value from that. This is how Grandmother and Matriarch function when in CLOCK mode (set via Global Settings – search for EXTERNAL CLOCK MODE for Grandmother or Arp/Seq Clock Input Mode for Matriarch).
Alternatively, both Grandmother/Matriarch can be set to STEP-ADVANCE mode, where the Arp/Seq advances one step on every pulse input. This is how the clock inputs on the DFAM, Subharmonicon, and Mother-32 work and is the typical analog sequencer clocking mode.
Muse currently only operates like Grandmother/Matriarch in CLOCK mode and does not have STEP-ADVANCE mode. This is a very high priority item for the team and particularly for both [of us] as our personal studios are fully modular and clocked via CV.
To go through what you’re looking for in order:
1. The Muse to respond to start/stop from all devices using Clock In (CV.)
This will work once STEP-ADVANCE mode is implemented, as the Seq/Arp will only move once a clock pulse comes in. As of right now, in ANALOG clock mode MUSE simply extracts a clock tempo from a steady incoming clock and therefore can’t tell when it should start or stop.
2. The Muse to respond to tempo changes from all devices using Clock In (CV.)
Again, this will be functional as of STEP-ADVANCE implementation, since a slower stream of incoming clock pulses will directly slow down movement through the Seq/Arp.
3. Instructions on how to arm the Muse prior to triggering an arp or sequence.
In STEP-ADVANCE mode the SEQ would be armed by simply pressing PLAY and ARP would be armed by turning the ARP ON and pressing HOLD. Which is to say it should be pretty self-explanatory and function just as you imagine once we have STEP-ADVANCE mode. Since pressing PLAY in the current mode simply starts the sequencer running based on the clock Muse has calculated coming into its clock input arming the Seq/Arp when syncing via analog clock is not yet functional.
Just to reiterate - your concerns on this matter are very strongly shared by both [of us], as both of our studios run almost exclusively off analog clocking. Naturally with a synthesizer as deep as Muse certain features had to take a backseat to others and step advance mode for analog clocking was one of those, but we expect to have it implemented in the near future.
