Ford Pro has unveiled a game-changing addition to its lineup at the IAA Transportation event – the all-new Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). This powerful hybrid pickup is set to make waves in Europe, blending the signature strength and ruggedness of the Ford Ranger with an eco-friendly plug-in hybrid powertrain.

One of the key attractions of the new Ranger PHEV is its ability to deliver the same impressive towing, payload, and off-road capabilities that fans of the Ranger have come to love, while also offering the added benefit of electric-only driving. This move solidifies Ford Pro’s leadership in Europe’s pickup market, broadening its range of battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

With a torque rating of 690 Newton-meters, the new Ranger PHEV boasts more muscle than any previous Ranger model. It also features an electric-only driving range of over 45 kilometers, making it a great option for both work and family use. In addition, it introduces Pro Power Onboard, a feature that allows customers to power up tools directly from the onboard battery, eliminating the need for a generator. The Pro Power Onboard system provides up to 6.9 kilowatts of power, making it especially handy for job sites or camping trips.

Ford Pro is offering the Ranger PHEV in a new Stormtrak edition, available exclusively as a plug-in hybrid model. This special edition joins the popular Wildtrak and XLT series, further enhancing the appeal of the Ranger lineup.

According to Hans Schep, General Manager of Ford Pro in Europe, the new Ranger PHEV delivers the benefits of electrification without sacrificing the performance that has earned the Ranger its loyal following. Designed to handle both work and off-road adventures, the Ranger PHEV also offers the comfort, connectivity, and electric-only capability for family outings, making it a versatile vehicle.

Production of the new Ranger PHEV will take place in Silverton, South Africa, with customer deliveries expected to begin in spring 2025. The model will be sold alongside the current diesel-powered Ranger, offering customers a broader choice of powertrains while adhering to local emissions regulations.

The heart of the new Ranger PHEV is a powertrain that combines Ford’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost petrol engine with a 75-kilowatt electric motor and an 11.8-kilowatt-hour (usable) battery. This setup generates an impressive 690 Newton-meters of torque and 279 horsepower, surpassing the power output of the 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel Ranger. The battery can be fully charged in under four hours using a single-phase, 16-amp charger, delivering a targeted electric-only range of over 45 kilometers.

Drivers will have the flexibility to choose how they use the battery power, with modes such as Auto EV, EV Now, EV Later, and EV Charge. Additionally, the Ranger PHEV retains its hard-working capability, with the ability to carry up to one tonne of payload and tow up to 3,500 kilograms. It also includes a cutting-edge e-4WD system, dual-range transfer box, and rear differential lock for off-road confidence.

The Ranger PHEV’s suspension has been re-tuned to optimize comfort both on- and off-road, taking into account the vehicle’s unique chassis and weight distribution. The onboard electric motor also enhances towing capabilities and off-road performance, making it an
