The MIT “Tournament of Memory Champions”
To Commemorate the 25th anniversary of the USA Memory Championship Organization (USAMC), a grand “Tournament of Memory Champions” was held on Sunday, Nov. 10 at MIT’s Kresge Auditorium. The top 12 “memorizers” in the United States put their well-trained memories to the test by competing against one another in four events: long-term memory, words-to-remember, tea party (auditory memory), and double-deck-of-cards. The competitors include Nelson Dellis (6-time USAMC champion), Ron White (2-time USAMC champion), and other past champions and a few select runners-up.
In between the events, MIT faculty who are experts in the science of memory provided short, entertaining talks and demos about what memory is, why mnemonic techniques improve memory, and what you can do to improve your own memory. It was a fun day of entertainment and enlightenment on a mysterious topic that affects us all.
