Each year, the Public Interest Working Group (PIWG) hosts a special event to honor and thank graduating J.D. and LL.M. students who have demonstrated a commitment to public interest, pro bono, and social justice work.
This event is in celebration of graduating students who rreceived Pro Bono honors, completed two summers of public interest or public service work, served as leader for a Student-Initiated Legal Services Project or a Berkeley Law Alternative Service Trip, or will be received the Public Interest and Social Justice or the Race and the Law Certificate. We also honor the recipients of several awards, including the Francine M. Diaz Memorial Award, the Pro Bono Champion Award, the Eleanor Swift Award, the Kathi Pugh Award, the Brian M. Sax Prize for Excellence in Clinical Advocacy, the CLEA Outstanding Clinical Student Award, and the CLEA Outstanding Externship Student Award.
