The Oregonian | 2024 Multnomah County DA debate hosted by The Oregonian/OregonLive and KGW @oregonian | Uploaded May 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 week ago.
Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt, elected in 2020, and Nathan Vasquez, a prosecutor for 23 years, seek the top job in Oregon’s busiest prosecuting office.
District Attorney Mike Schmidt, who was elected by a landslide four years ago on a platform of overhauling what he saw as an overly punitive justice system lacking sufficient alternatives to incarceration, will argue the best approach to the office with Nathan Vasquez.
Vasquez, a long-time senior deputy district attorney who has been working under Schmidt, said he’s running because his boss has faltered on the job.
The Oregonian/OregonLive recently published an analysis of both candidates’ campaign claims: oregonlive.com/politics/2024/04/multnomah-county-da-race-fact-checking-candidate-claims-about-crime-caseloads-and-convictions.html
