In this feature of the GCIC Climate Focus Documentary 2024 Series, we spotlight Clatural, a bold and conscious fashion brand founded by Clara Pinkrah Sam.

Did You Know? Every year, an astonishing 15% of textiles produced for clothing worldwide—enough to wrap around the equator—are discarded as waste. At the forefront of fighting this trend is Clatural Wear Limited, the award-winning sustainable couture brand from GCIC’s Cohort 8 that’s redefining fashion through radical reinvention.

Driven by a zero-waste ethos, Clatural’s artisans rescue discarded textiles, factory off-cuts, and even recycled plastics, transforming them into high-end fashion statements. Their innovative approach has caught global attention, earning features in Vogue’s Sustainability Edit and coveted spots at Lagos Fashion Week’s Green Room. Their signature blend of Adinkra motifs now graces eco-conscious boutiques from Accra to Amsterdam.

Supported by Global Affairs Canada and recognized by the UN Sustainable Fashion Network, this 100% Ghanaian, woman-owned enterprise goes beyond environmental impact. Seventy-five percent of their team are women artisans earning living wages, with intentional opportunities for persons with disabilities. Their 2024 "Remix Heritage" collection—showcased at Accra’s Fashion Week—proved sustainability can be both luxurious and culturally resonant, merging traditional Ghanaian craftsmanship with Parisian elegance.

Clatural’s success demonstrates how circular fashion can thrive: last year alone, they diverted 2.3 tons of textile waste while creating jobs and preserving heritage. As GCIC, we’re honored to support pioneers who turn ecological challenges into opportunities for beauty and empowerment.

Watch, be inspired, and join the conversation on how innovation and tradition can blend to create a more sustainable future.
