Queensland Symphony Orchestra's Young Instrumentalist Prize has launched the performing dreams of many young musicians. Now in its 23rd year, it is an opportunity for exceptional Queensland secondary school students to audition for a panel, and for the finalists, to perform for an audience and to take home cash prizes and performance prospects.
Listen as first place winner Chantel Chen and violin loan award winner Sophia Jones share their invaluable experiences from taking part in the competition.
Prize winners include: Chantel Chen, marimba (winner), Leonardo Lynch, violin (equal second prize), Ivy Han, cello (equal second prize), Sophia Jones, violin (fourth prize and violin loan award), Nathan Kim, alto saxophone (fifth prize), Haydn Li, viola (sixth prize), and Sterling Hall, cello (seventh prize).
