The Don Hanson Charitable Foundation's 2021 Hanson Boxes were shipped to 8,000 primary schools across the United Kingdom and the UK Overseas Territories ( see hansonbox.org ).
In partnership with the South Georgia Heritage Trust, each Hanson Box contains a specially made pack of activities about the UK Overseas Territory of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (SGSSI).
The SGSSI activity pack comprises:
- a 64 page book about the wildlife, landscapes, history and heritage of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.
- six specially made accompanying online films.
- 4 double sided, black and white A4 documents that comprise an overview of the SGSSI activity pack and 3 specially designed lesson plans that link to a range of online activities.
- an information flyer by the South Georgia Heritage Trust.
- an A2 size map of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.
- a really exciting competition that involved creative drawing (for younger students) and creating writing (for older students). In addition to generous book voucher prizes, the winning entries will actually be taken to South Georgia, and displayed in the island's museum, to be observed by thousands of tourists, researchers and scientists that visit the island! Photos of the exhibition will be sent to the winning students! So just imagine - YOUR drawings and writings could be taken to the sub-Antarctic!
