We miss you! We hope this message finds you safe and healthy and coping as best you can under these uncertain and trying circumstances.
One of the cornerstones of the Commonweal Theatre is our relationship with our patrons—patrons who have become friends and family over the years. The reason we are here is you: to share stories with you, to share space with you. As our beloved veteran ensemble member David Hennessey is fond of saying, “Without you, it’s just rehearsal.” And right now we can’t do even that!
When the impact of COVID-19 began to manifest in shut-downs and shelter-in-place mandates, we promised to update you of changes in a timely fashion. Of course, the ever-shifting nature of the pandemic has made planning difficult for all. That said, we are doing our best to focus on the future and lay out a strategy in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
Born Yesterday and One Man, Two Guvnors—Openings delayed
The hope at this time is to begin rehearsals for Born Yesterday as soon as allowed, with One Man, Two Guvnors to follow shortly thereafter. While we are unable to provide specific dates for the opening of both shows, we will be in touch mid-May with more information and specific updates.
I Ought to Be in Pictures to replace Doubt: A Parable
Neil Simon’s poignant comedy, I Ought to Be in Pictures, will move into the fall slot of Doubt: A Parable. This shift is being made for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that I Ought to Be in Pictures was well into rehearsals at the time we had to suspend operations. This move allows us to take advantage of the work that has already been done and see this piece to fruition, as well as offer a comedy at a time when we will all need a good laugh.
Doubt: A Parable has long been on our “must-do” list, and we are heartbroken to postpone it. It is our hope to schedule this gripping drama in the 2021 season. Stay tuned for those details.
Additionally, our Wealhouse production of Circumference of a Squirrel has also been postponed to 2021.
