The 600LT (Long Tail) is the range-topping ‘sports series’ variant of the 570S. The third McLaren to receive the longtail treatment, it was inspired by the 675LT and F1 GTR LT, and features a longer body as well as improved aerodynamics, courtesy of an an extended front splitter and rear diffuser, new side sills, and a fixed rear wing for increased downforce.
It has a modified carbon fibre monocoque, as well as a carbon fibre roof, cantrails and front fenders, which results in 98 kg of saved weight when compared to the 570S on which it is based. The car is equipped with a Senna-style lightweight titanium exhaust system, while the interior features P1-specification sports bucket seats.
Described by Auto Express as ‘one of the finest McLarens ever to emerge from the British brand’s Woking base’, the Spider is a convertible variant of the 600LT, unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in 2019. Featuring the same carbon monocoque chassis as the other models in the 570S lineage, the 600LT Spider did not require any extra modifications to incorporate a folding hardtop roof, and as a result, the Spider weighs 50 kg more than the coupé while maintaining the same performance statistics.
The Spider has the same race-derived twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 as the coupé, producing 592bhp (or 600PS, hence the ‘600’ in the model name) and driving the rear wheels via a seven-speed ‘SSG’ dual-clutch transmission with paddle shift.
It retains the coupé’s aerodynamic components, and shares the roof folding mechanism with the standard 570S Spider, which can be operated at speeds up to 25 mph. The car can accelerate to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds and to 124 mph in 8.4 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 196 mph with the roof retracted, and 201 mph with the roof closed.
