The Cooper Institute is proud to honor the NFL Foundation for their work to improve the fitness and health of children through NFL PLAY 60 programs. At our annual Legacy Award Dinner, we paid tribute to the NFL Foundation's work across the country. Charlotte Jones Anderson, Chairman of the NFL Foundation and the Dallas Cowboys Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer, accepted the award on behalf of the foundation.
Past Legacy Award recipients include Arthur M. Blank (2018), Drayton McLane, Jr. (2017), Roger Staubach (2016), Lyda Hill (2015), Ray L. Hunt (2013), Peter O'Donnell, Jr. (2013) and Fred Meyer (2013).
NFL PLAY 60 encourages and inspires kids and teens to get active at least 60 minutes daily to improve fitness and overall health. The Cooper Institute is honored to partner with the NFL on this important mission as part of the NFL PLAY 60 FitnessGram project.
The project combines the wide reach of the NFL with the scientific validity of FitnessGram by The Cooper Institute to measure the effectiveness of NFL PLAY 60.
Our research, published in 2017, proves that kids who participate in NFL PLAY 60 improve their aerobic capacity and reduce their body mass index. We also know through additional research that kids who are fitter and healthier are also better students with improved academic performance and better attendance.
NFL PLAY 60 has reached more than 38 million children across the country, but greater participation is needed to help curb the rising epidemic of childhood obesity. Currently, 36% of youth in America are considered overweight or obese and that figure is rising. One out of three children born after 2000 will be diagnosed with diabetes at some point in their life. We have to act now to help kids GET ACTIVE and GET HEALTHY so they can live #WELLintothefuture.
