2018 Portal Woodworks plywood challenge Entry
This is my entry into the Portal Woodworks plywood challenge. A year ago, Portal put out his first challenge. It was a band saw box challenge. So I entered that one. It was fun and I won a MIter Mkie shirt.
Now portal has a website portalwoodworks.com and you can check out future challenges. He goes above and beyond with these. There seems to always be multiple prizes. So that takes a lot of attention and work. We appreciate his efforts. Our job is to get the word out and let other Makers know about these special events. So thanks to Portal Woodworks for setting these up for the community.
I decided to make a Portal Woodworks logo for my entry. A few of the guys on hangouts were busting my chops for picking his logo to make. They were saying, "oh, Eloy, you're hamming it up for the judges". Well fair enough, but it's really my shout out to David of Portal Woodworks for taking the time to do these. We need more of this type of thing and I'm thankful for the opportunity.
So I printed out the logo and cut each piece. Next I used masking tape to stick the shaps that make up his logo to the plywood. I used 1/4 in ply for this project. Next it was a matter of cutting out every section with the scroll saw. I did a bit of sanding and painting after. The last part of the project was gluing all the parts together and then hitting the logo with a coat of shellac.
