The fifteenth installment in 2018 for Hallmark's Singing Snowmen/Jingle Pals collection is Special Delivery, with snowmen who sing an altered lyrics version of Up on the House Top, reprising the song after only four years, just like 2011/2015 with Deck the Halls.
This wins the Biggest Disappointment Award from me. This one leaked back in March this year in the form of a motionless plastic ornament with the accompanying song and I was pretty disappointed. But then I noticed that there would be lights and the mailman's hand was on the mailbox... not to mention this is the first snowman with an occupation, which is a whole new form of snowmen to explore. It finally came out and, following last year's trend, looks super nice, but the movements are just extremely lazy. They both simply bob up and down at the same time instead of taking turns when it's time for their musical cues, my exact problem with 2015's Time for Cookies, and the song is uninteresting and overly cutesy. His hand is ON THE MAILBOX and it doesn't move at all. It just feels like they were teasing with something that didn't actually go through. Even the lights, which I always am a fan of, feel as forced as 2014's The Perfect Tree, with a few strung onto the mailbox just for some extra flair. They really dropped the ball on this one in my opinion, and the only reason I prefer it to Time for Cookies is that it DOES look nicer overall.
In the end, though, I do love this collection of singing snowmen, and it's crazy to think it's been going on for 15 years and I had the fourth one SINCE 2006! It's too bad they skipped 2009 but I guess it works out since this one is still #15 and it's 15 years later. Overall, I want to see these continue doing great, and I'm waiting for a renaissance. My recommendations would be to stop being lazy, make the movements more interesting, keep changing out "cute" characters (penguins, snow kids, and dogs should be interchangeable, along with other animals like cats), and keep using different ranges of songs. I know people will buy them no matter what, but I really think there's more to be done with this series, and I'd hate to see them fall into this endless line of overly cutesy laziness.
