A direct upgrade to the Type 09 Individual Soldier's Self Heating Meal, the Type 17 combines both practical and palatable in their newest standard issued field ration. With the newest Type 18 (up next for PLA) being a direct upgrade to the Type 13, this Type 17 is again, the answer to the much needed changes from that older Type 09. With freeze dried and pickled vegetables, an extremely powerful FRH, compressed food bar, dried fruit, and a delicious curry chicken & rice, this really turned out to be a well made ration that breaches into the realms of a US MRE & South Korean ration in terms of food quality, effectiveness, and tough packaging.
