In the Kia Soul EV, there is a very convenient thing for opening the charging port in an emergency. This is the metal-wired release handle that will physically open the charging port even if there is absolutely no power in the 12V battery to operate the actuator. Also, this will work if the actuator is broken.
The charging port may be open in any case just by pulling this handle, but the problem is that charging the high-voltage battery will not charge the 12V battery, and so you may eventually need to charge the small battery to get the car started. But still, this is an extremely convenient feature that a lot of electric vehicles lack.
