The first generation of the electric Kia Soul actually had a battery recall. The NHTSA documents for this campaign is 23V-218. In the US, approximately 2700 cars were under the recall, and the majority of them just needed high-voltage system software update. Only some vehicles actually needed to have the HV battery pack replaced.
This recall is extremely overexaggerated in news, so people form the opinion that the Soul EV can catch fire easily. It’s not true, the potential fire risk is extremely small, and the recall software is aimed to make sure that the battery management system avoids overheating. Also, it only covers the E400 battery pack.
