A perfectly preserved example from 2009. This replaced the veggie omelet MRE & it was an instant hit with the troops who ate it out in the field. This was another year before it replaced the scone with maple muffin top - a very rare ration with only 1 year production time with this unusual menu lineup.
The maple patty was totally different back then - this was filmed in 2019. Only just recently had I figured out how to repair a certain sound error on older videos like this one - I'd also lost the first 10 seconds of this review stating it's a US MRE - it jumps right into "And this one, etc" - which works well enough! I never found another 2009 maple patty in this good of condition. A 10 year old ration at the time, 6 years later after filming - this one is finally out there! A true gem of a review with really cool preserved shelf stable food of the pioneering kind - a fascinating transitional breakfast menu that led to what we have today for Maple Sausage Patty.
I filmed this exactly a year after the 2008 Veggie Omelet - that one was perfectly preserved as well, filmed in 2018 - this one again in 2019 and it really sealed this menu in time on a preserved example at the 10 year mark. Excellent for documentation purposes, and for the satiation of apple butter on a clove spiced maple pork patty and shelf stable cinnamon scone. (I forgot to mention this in the review - that 1st gen maple patty has clove spice and maple syrup - sweet and flavorful with a smoky undertone yet a texture that closer resembles a burger than a sausage.)
