Tonight we interview Tanya Evans, mother of Angelito Caraballo, 16, who was found in the woods along with his friend, 18-year-old Hunter Mock. According to multiple news reports, a witness claimed he was partying with the two victims – 16-year-old Angelito Caraballo and 18-year-old Hunter Mock – as they were hanging out with another man, identified as 19-year-old Lamour Branch, in a wooded area called “The Sanchez” on Oct. 8.
The area is an old mining area filled with water where people socialize and have bonfires, WBRE/WYOU said.
The witness said that at some point during the night, Branch pulled out a gun and began to open fire for unknown reasons.
The witness said he took off and was able to get away by swimming through a nearby pond before arriving at a nearby home where he called for help, WFMZ reported.
The unnamed witness also reported hearing 10-20 gunshots while escaping.
At around 11:50 p.m., first responders reported to Ferndale Road in New Philadelphia for a call about a man knocking on the front door asking for help, WBRE/WYOU said.
On Oct. 9 and 10, Mock and Caraballo were both officially reported missing by state police in Frackville.
On Oct. 10, authorities received a report from a woman who went looking for Mock and Caraballo, only to come across their bodies in the wooded area of “The Sanchez.”
After they were pronounced dead at the scene, Mock was found to have been shot in the head while Caraballo sustained multiple puncture wounds and laceration-type injuries that led to his death, WBRE/YOU reported.
Branch said that he did try to shoot Caraballo, but that the gun didn’t work, and instead said it was the other witness who shot Mock, the news site said.
Right now, investigators are searching the property and collecting DNA from Branch and also from the unnamed witness.
WBRE/YOU said that Branch has been arrested on unrelated charges.
“We want to make sure that we have everything that’s necessary for a successful prosecution of whoever was responsible for this incident,” State Police Trooper David Boehm said to WFMZ.
As of now, no one has been charged.
