Back to the Butler Basilica, this time with an alto, Eb ceramic ocarina that I picked up in a music shoppe in Boulder, Colorado. This is one of my very favorite ocarinas, with its clean, rich low tone. I'd carry this one to the mountains with me, but I'm very scared I'd break it. I was a little nervous that I'd get locked in there. This dog is one of mine. Interestingly enough, when I was working on this YouTube, I also read a short bit from Rumi, which sets this notion of the Butler granary as 'basilica' on its head:
"Friend, we're traveling together.
Throw off your tiredness. Let me show you
one tiny spot of the beauty that cannot be spoken.
I'm like the ant that's gotten into the granary,
ludicrously happy, and trying to lug out
a grain that's way too big."
(Coleman Barks translated that...) It took me three hours to warm up my fingers when I got home...! :D
