Confronting Labeling🙈 Jeremy Johnston 2023-01-18 | Labeling, calling names. Our kids are doing it a lot more than we want. And with my teenager, I told him that if he does it again, if he calls a sibling a name or a label, he's going to lose his phone for 30 minutes. And he immediately responded, Well, are you going to get the same consequence If you call us names or label us? And I said, yes. And truth be told, I've lost my phone a lot more than him. And this has been a rude awakening. That often the things that drive me crazy with my kids are the things that I struggle with. And I taught them and I gave it to them. To be a chain breaker, to try to to break these cycles that I grew up with, I can't just punish it out of my kids. I'm trying to confront it painfully and humbly. And then in the process of me trying to change, teach them what I'm going through.
