Some people who feel like they can't retire actually can. In our experience, the money is usually there. What's missing is a plan, a withdrawal strategy, and a vision for what the next 30 years actually look like.
- In this video I walk through all three, in the order I walk some clients through them:
1. The financial plan. Start with expenses. Pull a year of bank and credit card statements, add them up, divide by 12. That's your real monthly number. Then layer in what you've saved and how it's actually invested. From there you can view the plan two ways: a cash flow view that shows exactly what you need to pull each year, and a Monte Carlo simulation that runs a thousand scenarios across good markets and bad so you
can see whether the money can last.
2. The withdrawal strategy. This is how you actually get paid once the paycheck stops. Many people probably know the 4% rule, but sequence of return risk is what determines whether it holds up in the real world.
3. The vision. This is the one almost nobody talks about, and it's the one I hear about most from clients getting close. After 30 or 40 years of the same routine, a lot of people genuinely cannot picture life without it. Retirement is where you get to dream again, and a real plan is what lets you do that honestly.
