Have you ever noticed just how many people in the LGBTQ+ community also… have disabilities? It’s 1 in 3! 🤯
(For reference, according to government figures, in the general population it’s just under 1 in 5 people)
So the question is: why?
I’ve heard some people say it’s to do with intersectionality; that if one part of your identity is a clear minority (like a visible disability) that it’s easier to acknowledge other parts of yourself that are different from the ‘norm’, like your gender or sexuality… but this isn’t always the case! Others pose that it may simply be because discrimination takes a toll on our wellbeing.
What do you think the reason is?
